From year to year, the world of technology industry is increasingly evolving and developing. One example of this technological development is the Home Phone. Landline telephones make it easier for humans to communicate and when sending letters, they still use them through mail delivery services. Along with the rapid development of technology, now rarely use landlines and have begun to switch to mobile phones.
At that time, cellphones or cell phones were more practical to communicate. Because it already has a feature service for sending letters without having to send letters through a mail delivery service. With the Short Message Service feature or what we often call SMS (Short Message Service) on cellphones and lots of users have switched from landlines to cellphones.
In the present era, the mobile phone has evolved into a smartphone or smart phone. Many people use smartphones because of their sophisticated features and are supported by internet networks. The internet network itself is to simplify everything from the aspect of communication to the very broad science of this internet, and smartphones do not only provide short message and telephone services. However, there are additional features, namely the presence of applications on smartphones that can be downloaded and installed. One of them is the WhatsApp application.
This WhatsApp application is a software application called an instant messenger or instant message processor created by Jan Koum and Brian Acton and is owned by a company developer WhatsApp Inc. equipped with features in the WhatsApp application. There have been a lot of uses of this WhatsApp application because it is very easy, clear and short in terms of communicating at this time. Based on data from kompas (dot com) in 2020, whatup users have now reached 2 billion. This is because the convenience of the WhatsApp application is sufficient for everything from short message services, and for telephone. The application can be used for video calls, namely face-to-face phone calls, but it just needs an internet network to run this application.
On the other hand, the global world is currently being confronted by a corona virus pandemic. The impact of this pandemic has resulted in various obstacles that must be faced by the community in carrying out their daily activities. This is due to the implementation of social distancing to reduce the rate of transmission of the virus. Many community activities require work from home. One of them is among the higher education level environment, namely students at the Bina Sarana Informatika University, Jakarta.
For this reason, the campus also took the decision to conduct learning through e-learning. There are many ways that students and lecturers can do for the learning process. Can be through the Zoom application, WhatsApp, Google Classroom or via the elearning.bsi.ac.id web. Of all these methods, students and lecturers use the WhatsApp application more often to communicate. Whatsapp facilitates students to communicate more easily because various forms of messages can be sent with one click. The message is not monotonous, only in the form of text, but can be videos, images, sounds, and documents related to learning for students. Lecturers can also share various information such as material, assignments, and interesting content related to learning and even things outside of learning.
The obstacles that often arise when learning through WhatsApp are (1) the internet network is often weak so that communication is hampered, (2) the matter of learning practical subjects which are considered difficult to explain through chat only. For example, things that must be explained through a video with a long duration but the file is too large so that it cannot be sent via WhatsApp.
So, we need a solution to all the obstacles faced when using the WhatsApp application for the student learning process. based on the description above, it can be formulated how the relationship between students and lecturers can take advantage of the WhatsApp application to facilitate the learning process by using the WhatsAppp application.
1.1 Formulation of the problem
H1: Is there a correlation between the effect of the regression equation between the use of WhatsApp and the ease of the learning process.
H0: There is no correlation between the effect of the regression equation between the use of WhatsApp and the ease of the learning process.
1.2 Research purposes
Based on the formulation of the problem above, the purpose of making this research is to determine the effect of using WhatsApp media on the ease of the learning process. If this goal is achieved, then we can find out what WhatsApp features can be used in education. So what the author wants to achieve is:
a. Can make it easier in a learning process by using the WhatsApp application.
b. There are no obstacles in the learning process in the WhatsApp application.
c. Connection of an adequate internet network for convenience in the learning process, and
d. Maintained stability in an adequate internet network.
2. RESEARCH METHODS
The following is the research method used by the author in collecting the necessary data, namely (1) Questionnaire / Questionnaire, (2) Documentation Study, (3) Observation / Observation. The research with quantitative analysis methods with a mix of qualitative analysis as a complement to supporting the data in this study. The research was conducted in the university environment, one of which is at the University of Bina Sarana Informatika Jakarta.
In the research that was held from April to May 2020, the total population of BSI Dewi Sartika Campus B students in East Jakarta was 500 people. The author uses a simple random sampling technique with a total sampling of 107 from the total population. So based on the data above, it can be described as follows: the criteria for respondents in this study were students of the diploma program three as active users of the Whatsup application and have smartphone facilities and are used to support the learning process.
2.1 Study Program / Department
Based on table III.1 above, it can be seen that the number of respondents in the accounting study program was 28 respondents with a percentage of 26.16%, the Tax Management study program was 21 respondents with a percentage of 26.16%, the Office Administration study program was 18 respondents with a percentage of 16.82%, the English Literature study program was 10 respondents, with a percentage of 9.34%, the Broadcat study program was 15 respondents with a percentage of 14.01%, the Information Systems study program was 11 respondents with a percentage of 10.28% and Secretary study program as many as 4 respondents with a percentage of 3.77%. From the results of the table data, it can be seen that the most number of respondents in filling out this questionnaire is the Accounting study program with a contribution of 26.16%.
1. The semester that the respondent can afford
Table. 2 Characteristics based on the semester the respondent covers
Based on Table III.2, it can be seen that the number of respondents in semester 2 was 12 respondents with a percentage of 11.32%, the number of respondents in semester 4 was 56 respondents with a percentage of 52.33%. And the number of respondents in semester 6 was 39 respondents with a percentage of 36.44%. From the results of the table data, it can be seen that the largest number of respondents in filling out this questionnaire were respondents who were taking semester 4 with a contribution of 52.33%.
2.2 Research Instrument Test
Before calculating the Correlation Test, Determination Test, and Regression Equation Test, it is necessary to conduct validity tests and reliability tests which aim to ascertain whether the data is reliable (valid) and consistent (reliable) (Sugiyono, 2016)
Validity and Reliability Test on variable X
Because the Cronbach Alpha value of variable X is 0.727 > 0.6, the hypothesis H1 is accepted and H0 is rejected, which means that there is consistency (Reliability) on each Instrument Variable X. And it can be said that each instrument is reliable.
Conclusion of Instrument Validity Test for Variable X based on table III.3 above, it can be concluded that each instrument of variable X is valid or reliable, because the value of r count on each instrument> of the value of rTable.
2.3 Validity and Reliability Test on variable Y
Cronbach’s Alpha N of Items
, 748 5
Source: The data were processed using SPSS V21
Because the Cronbach Alpha value of variable X is 0.748> 0.6, the hypothesis H2 is accepted and H0 is rejected, which means that there is consistency (Reliability) on each Instrument Variable Y. And it can be said that each instrument is reliable.
Conclusion of Instrument Validity Test for Variable Y based on table III.4 above, it can be concluded that each instrument variable Y is valid or reliable, because the value of r Calculate on each instrument> from the value of r Table.
3. Analysis of Variable X against Y
3.1 Correlation Coefficient Test
The correlation coefficient test is used to determine the strength or weakness of the significant relationship between the use of WhatsApp and the ease of student learning process. In this study the authors wanted to test the following hypotheses:
H0: There is no significant relationship between the use of Whatsaap to the Ease of Student Learning Process.
H3: There is a significant relationship between the use of Whatsapp and the Ease of Student Learning Process.
SPSS Output Correlation Coefficient Test Results
Table III.13 shows the magnitude of the relationship between the Whatsapp Usage Utilization variable on the Ease of Student Learning Process which is calculated using the correlation coefficient is +0.741. This shows a strong relationship based on the SPSS value according to the correlation interpretation table.
3.2 Determination Coefficient Test Results
The coefficient of determination test is used to determine the effect of the use of Whatsapp on the Ease of Student Learning Process. In this study the authors wanted to test the following hypotheses:
H0 : There is no significant influence between the use of Whatsapp on the Ease of Student Learning Process.
H4: There is a significant influence between the use of Whatsapp on the Ease of Student Learning Process.
In table III.14, it is known that the R Square obtained is 0.549, which means that the use of Whatsapp on the Ease of Student Learning Process has an effect of 54.9%. While the remaining 45.1% is influenced by other factors which are not examined.
3.3 Regression Equation Test Results
To predict how far the performance efficient value will change if the value of archiving management is changed, regression equation testing is used. In this research, the writer wants to test the following hypothesis:
H0 : There is no regression equation between the Utilization of Whatsapp and the Ease of Student Learning Process.
H5 : There is a regression equation between the Utilization of Whatsapp to the Ease of Student Learning Process.
The level of significant influence of the Sig. (2 tailed) output results in an output value of 0,000. Because 0.000 <0.05, H0 is rejected and H3 is accepted, which means that there is a significant regression equation between the Utilization of Whatsapp and the Ease of Student Learning Process. The equation that is formed from the results of the simple linear regression equation test that the author tries to calculate using manual calculations is the same as calculations using the IBM SPSS Statistics V21 calculating machine which has been discussed in the previous discussion. In this experiment, it can be concluded that if the constant is 5.190, it means that the variable’s consistent value is 5.190. The X regression coefficient of 0.722 states that for every 1% increase in the value of Whattsap use, the value of the ease of learning increases by 1.476, conversely if the value of the ease of learning has decreased by 1%, the use of Whatsup is also predicted to decline by 0.722. The regression coefficient is positive, 4. CONCLUSION & SUGGESTION From the results of the research description above, it can be stated that the X1 variable, namely the use of the Whatsup application, has an influence on the Y1 variable, the ease of the learning process among diploma level students, It is known that the R Square obtained is 0.549, which means that the use of Whatsapp on the Ease of Student Learning Process has an effect of 54.9%. While the remaining 45.1% is influenced by other factors which are not examined. There are several suggestions that need to be conveyed in connection with the results of this study, including: a. In order to develop deeper research on the relationship between the use of the WhatsApp application and the ease of the learning process. b. In order to conduct research on other factors that have a relationship with the ease of the learning process among students in higher education environments
